Beyond the Gate
Beyond the Gate is an R-6 nature-play inspired program. Once a week, on Friday afternoons during term 2 and term 3 the everyone in the school has the opportunity to explore the natural Mylor environment.
Benefits of ‘Beyond the Gate’
- Sensory development: exploring and experimenting with the sounds, smells and textures of water, mud, wet leaves, bark, and other materials.
- Gross motor skill development: navigating wet surfaces and terrain to improve balance and coordination, promote risk analysis, and provide opportunities to support resilience.
- Creative and critical thinking: adapting to changing conditions and working to solve problems such as staying dry by building a shelter or creating a dam to catch the rain.
- Social and emotional skills: collaborating and communicating with others while investigating, testing, and planning to solve the challenges presented by the weather.
- Curiosity: playing in wet and cold weather can lead to deeper learning of the seasons and how outdoor environments respond to seasonal changes.
