Opening the mind through language

At Mylor all year levels study Indonesian language. In the early years of schooling the emphasis is on developing learners’ oral language so students can participate in shared reading, songs, rhymes and games. As their language skills develop, students follow instructions, read stories and captions and use computer programs and games for language practice. They create texts like descriptions, reports and scripts using modelled language and scaffolded tasks.

Throughout their language learning, students are gaining an awareness of the world around them and our Indonesian neighbours. They are noticing similarities and differences between Indonesian language and culture and their own as well as developing new ways of seeing and being in our world.
